Will 50 tons of topsoil cover my front and posterior courtyard? My landscaper says I necessitate 150 tons of topsoil to cover...

My landscaper says I necessitate 150 tons of topsoil to cover my back and front patio at 3" deep. My front patio measurements are in 3 parts, 74x16, 74x93, and 17x33. My backbone yard measurements are 68x90. (these are my landscaper measurements) Isn't 150 tons mode too much? He originally said 50 would cover it and now is increasing it.
most of the topsoil i deal near weights between 2000 to 3000 pounds per cubic yard, depending on exact type, and moisture content. So your looking at between 100, and 150 cubic yard, so id articulate you are in the ballpark. But at the 50 ton estimate, ego say he be way short. Good luck!!

My multiplication says 147.47. It seem like profusely, but, you're covering almost 15,000 sq ft. at a depth of 3"...that, to me, sounds pretty accurate.

The increase was probably due to calculating the actual sq. footage.

You can other check with another landscaper, too. Get estimates, reference and go beside the one you feel will hand over you what you're looking for at the best price. Doesn't hurt to shop around!
Answers:    I, too, might effortlessly guess by looking at your yard that 50 tons of top soil would be moderately sufficient.

But this is where maths can relief a business from going broke. Based on the figures you provided, you hold a total of 143,747 sq. ft. of land to be covered .

At an averaging covering of 3", you will require 3,918 cu. ft.
of topsoil.

Considering that one cubic patio is approximately equal to 1 ton and that i cu. yd. = 27 cu. ft., then:

3,918 divided by 27 = 145 cu. yds.

You do necessitate 150 tons, at least.
