Answers:    Horse manure is traditionally used to force rhubarb stems into hasty growth as follows.
Cover the rhubarb crown with an prehistoric galvanised bucket.Surround the bucket with,fresh,steaming droppings.The heat will buoy the growth of the rhubarb stems,excluding light cause them to grow quicker.
Remove the bucket after 3-4 dressings of manure,allowing the stems to colour. Rake the nourishment away from the rhubarb and fork it into the soil.
On a personal note,horses and cart were adjectives in my boyhood and here was competition every time a horse disappeared a deposit in the road!
