Why do we call plant bearings, vegetables?
Aren't they still going to be plants someday merely as babies will still be humans when they grow old? or calves will still be cows when they grow up?


Instead of saying..

"Billy, travel eat your veggies or you're not getting any meat for tonight."

Why can't we just influence..

"Billy, go eat your plants or you're not getting any meat for tonight"

Answers:    This is adjectives rather confusing, where I come from we christen it the harvest. Yes we do call trees etc fruit carriage, but I don't understand the baby bit.

Because veggies are a set word for something edible and good for you. "Plant" is a nonspecific term and includes thousands and thousands of non edible specimens.
