Why do my turnips own profuse leaves but lone a 1/2 inch bulb?


Answers:    I would just bet that you are spraying a fertilizer elevated in nitrogen on them such as "adjectives purpose miracle grow"...root plants do not want any nitrogen at all except that that comes from a good loose composted soil..they stipulation loose soil to grow and the root to expand... THEY DO NOT LIKE AMMENDED NITROGEN...

If a soil interview has not be taken, fertilize turnips and rutabagas with 3 pounds of 5-10-10 fertilizer per 100 square foot. Add additional nitrogen when the childish plants begin to put on ˇ°true leavesˇ± or after a hard to digest rainfall. Apply calcium nitrate at 2 pounds per 100 feet of row or ammonium nitrate at 1 pound per 100 foot of row. Avoid applying too much nitrogen, which will reduce root formation. Broadcast fertilizer over the complete planting area a few days beforehand seeding. Sidedress applications should be placed at most minuscule 3 inches away from the seed row.
