Why do my "mature hen and little chickens" plants other die? I enjoy a green thumb next to almost adjectives other potted I don,t know the corect name of these plants but that is...
I don,t know the corect name of these plants but that is what adjectives the old timers call them.
Do you mean Hens and Chicks? The parent plant (Hen) always dies rotten..I don't know why..that's just the way the plant is. You are consequently left with adjectives the "chicks" that eventually become Hens too and the cycle continues. Probably too much water. They are desert cactus plants and need deeply little water.
I agree, too much sea, you have to be cruel to be kind to them! The being above me was right as well, singular the name of the pot is called a "strawberry pot", (an urn next to cups cut in the sides of them) besides strawberries, that is the traditional planter hens and chicks are kept contained by. Yep, you killed your Hens and Chicks by overwatering them. It's a common mistake most non-desert dwellers commit.
Hens and Chicks are succulents and succulents call for very little water to survive. Overwatered succulents bloat beside water, and then rot from diseases cause by the "drowning."
Answers: I hold had those for years, I thought they were indestructible...lol mine enjoy lived forever and I do nothing with them. I do know they require little soil, no fertilizer, and not to over wet them. I placed mine in a huge rock with holes and in recent times a little bit of dirt, 15 years ago, they have lived through rime storms, 20 below , hail, 110 degree summers, and they simply keep going.
I think I be told they come in hardy and non hardy varieties, perchance you need the hardy variety.
Try a new terracotta pot - you know, the ones next to the holed in the sides too much water they are succulents.
