Why did the shop assistant supply me a strange look when I asked him did he get rid of rooting powder?

He didn't know what rooting powder is? probably didn't know what you were conversation about !
He did not know his Job, a person that is to say in a Gardening Shop and does not know anything about it. I despise this when you go into a Shop be it Televisions , Tools, Electrical , Motor Factors, or Gardening , and the Assistants dont have a Clue give or take a few anything they are selling and just give you a Blank Stare near their Mouth opening and Shutting like a Guppie Fish within Wonderment. It is a Powder that you dip a Plant Stem in to help it to grow a New Plant. Cause copious haven't a clue about actually growing anything. Most are seasonal force usually summer help from your local high academy. Mostly, just good back to carry "hard goods" to cars for customers purchases. Be more specific when asking. Use brand name IE, Rootone, Hormodin, Dip and Grow, etc. that a garden shop employee or even store manager could look up on a store computer to see if they even convey it. It's a shelf item that you should be able to find yourself. Look where they take smaller bottled items...fungicides,weed killers, insecticides. I know Walmart carries it but other be sure to check the expiration dates on whichever item you choose. Dig into the back of the shelf and bring back the freshest rooting hormone offered.
Answers:    Hahahahaha probably has no product knowledge which is essential if you work surrounded by sales. I can see the funny side though.
He unquestionably wasn't familiar with the product, try "rooting hormone" if he still doesn't bring it then he needs more training or moved out of the gardening department! Obviously a rookie to lawn-and-garden retail. Did you teach him anything?
because he has no knowledge of gardening.and be thinking of something else.

some people use the word 'rooting' for another meaning. (a sexual meaning).he probably uses the word surrounded by that context, and was rather surprised to hear it from you.I don't know what he made of the 'powder' bit..lol
Maybe he only carry rooting cream. Are you in Australia? Because if you are he might have thought you be being rude ^_^
Were you in a Garden passage where he would know what you were asking for? Or be he too young with no gardening experience or fluency? I once worked in a shop. Somebody asked me if I had cotton wool ball. I said, "What do you think I am? A Teddy Bear!"
You naughty girl. probably did,t know what it is and what it used for
