We have a black walnut tree with a trunk roughly 30" in diameter.
Years ago a gunstock manufacturer needed to buy it, but My uncle wouldn't sell. No we wish we know someone who would like to buy it, either for stocks, furniture or verneer. Anyone know of any outfits surrounded by Arkansas, West Tennesee, or Southern Missouri who might want to come and cut and buy it?
Answers: Being from a lumber family I know that black walnut is considered black gold to the lumber industry. We have a neighbor who sold one like yours for 10,000 standing. They cut the trunk diagonally to make these huge table tops which be in motion for thousands of dollars, and considering how many tabletops you can get from a hulking tree is a lot of money. Places like Missouri where on earth black walnut are plentiful, you have too much competition but companies in Florida or New Jersey or some place where on earth they are rare bring big bucks. Try advertising on ebay or out of state logging or lumber companies and you won,t enjoy a problem getting a good price for it. good luck.
I be once told that companies won't buy trees belonging to individuals because there is a very lofty probability that there are nails nail into the trees somewhere and if a saw hits a nail it ruins the saw blade and since the saw blade costs more than a tree is worth it is not worth the risk.
Besides, there are incredibly few trees in the country 30 inches in diameter so you should cherish it not wipe out it! Hello
Do a search for specialty lumber mills and distributors in your nouns.
Good Luck
