There are so many species of wicker its hard to know which type will grow into a perfect fence or beat about the bush wall, it also needs to be capable of handle long period without hose and pretty high temperature.
Which type should i plant?
Answers: Bah, none of the above posters knows what they are chitchat about.
First, rattan is NOT invasive when planted and contained correctly. This is ONLY necessary if you plant the running collection. These usually start with the word "phyllostachys".
Second, here are bamboos that grow in a clump and obligation minimal care to create a tropical look, important screen (from pesky neighbors) or simply add some creative environment. These usually start with the word "bambusa" or "fargesia". Clumpers slowly grow outward, creating a "footprint" within the same behaviour as any shrub, including cypress.
Now depending on where you are at will depend on the type of clumper you should plant. If your nouns never gets below freezing, later you are in luck as ANY tropical clumper will grow within your area (these start near the name bambusa). If your nouns gets cold spells and freezes consequently there are still some bambusas that will thrive into the 20's and 10's, and this is where on earth the fargsia come into plant. They can survive temps below 0!
So where can you return with all this wonderful rattan at? There are many online outlets, merely google bamboo and you'll find them. If I know your location I'd list a few websites. You may even pop over to the wicker forum (a) http://www.bambooweb.info as they have tons of pics, info and sources that may abet you.
Now should you decide against planting a clumper and in truth do plant some runners, keep them potted. If you should put them contained by the ground, you will need some rhizome boundary marker, which can be very pay for breaking labor to put in. You can check this stuff out here http://www.lewisbamboo.com/barrier.html
I grow and propagate numerous bamboos within North Florida. Check out my bamboo pics at http://www.gator-ventures.com/bamboo
I totally agree beside the other posters--don't plant the bamboo! I own 16 Leyland Cypress' between my house and the next. I planted them 3 years ago and they be maybe 3 foot tall each--$11/per plant at Walmart. They're adjectives at least 9-10 foot tall and much wider presently. I planted them 15 feet apart from respectively other staggered in two rows. Next year I probably won't know how to see between them anymore.
Anyway, forget the bamboo--Leyland's are much prettier and non-invasive.
