Where does sand come from?
Answers: Sand is weathered rock. Depending on the size of the particles of the weathered rock we put them within a different class such as Sand, Silt, and Clay.
Quartz crystalizes when molten rock slowly cools underground and forms granite or similiar rocks. When uplift and erosion brings the formation to the surface, the rock slowly breaks down into individual minerals. Quartz, which is SiO2, is the most stable chemically. It is the remaining mineral. It is mechanically broken into small pieces as it tumbles down streams and become... sand.
