My lanscaper told me I should only prune my shrubs in the dive. They look uncept and I would like to trim them.
I live in Michigan and own a couple green flowering shrubs and some dark green shrubs.
thanks so much.
Answers: Minor pruning can be done at any time. Major pruning should be done contained by the late fall or hasty spring. When you do major pruning ,the tree or shrub will try to push new growth. New growth typically can't survive summer fry, and will strain the plant, causing uneven growth and poor shape, or worse.
By doing chief pruning in the fall or impulsive spring, the plant will naturally push the new growth within the most ideal spots, filling within empty areas and forming a more natural shape. For example, you can force a shrub to pack in low spots by pruning off the top.
Also, most flowering trees and bushes generate their blooms on unsullied growth. Heavy pruning before budding in the spring forces unsullied extra new growth, so you can get more blooms than you would otherwise.
I would follow his suggestion I prune mine after blooming is over. if you prune before they bloom you will cut off the alien blooms
