Answers:    You dont need stone lower than the footing up there, purely compacted / undisturbed soil. Get the bottom of your footing down at least possible 4'. The stone and drains go outside the footing, and compacted stone, vapor railing and wire mesh inside the footing below the slab.

the top soil is usually soft while the sub soil is a lot harder
