I planted (I think) late closing year, although the tomatos gre well, as soon as it get cold, they died with some black colour fungus on the stems, when would the best time in truth be ?
Answers: in cold prehistoric uk i wait untill the end frost has gone, wrap up of feb approx here. before even moving from a heated green house or buying bright plants..
the black stuff that you mentioned sometimes this happens if you nurture them to early .i only water untill first fruits enjoy set..then nurture on a weekly basis next to tom food..
