Ok, I just rented this house and it have a ton of Azalias, Ivy growing outward further than the 2 1/2 that it should be, boxwood bushes and mulberry bushes all around the full house. They are all growing close to crazy, are too big and are growing out-of-hand. When should each of these types of bushes, plants be trimmed? and how should respectively of them be trimmed and what should be used? ------ So far, my Brother says he have this power trimmer, but I know that the boxwood bush/tree would probably look better getting clipped/trimmed by hand using a simple clipper. My tenant lives right next door to me, ge is home alot and I want to be capable of do this at least partly right, lol.
Answers: Ivy can be rimmed most anytime or even mowed off if it is on the meadow. It will generally branch a short time ago behind the cut. Boxwood can be trimmed and shaped other or bottom should be clipped wider than top so it will get some feathery. Hedge clippers work best for this. Azaleas should be trimmed just above a fern nod (where leaf attaches to stem) one and only after spring flowering. Mulberries would be trimmed basically indistinguishable as Azaleas only on larger mount, limbs crossing should come sour and suckers cut off and tree shaped. Around here I would merely eliminate the Mulberries.
