Some of the earth is usually surrounded by a mound around the gopher hole. But that amount is not nearly enough to vindication for the earth that be removed by the gopher when creating the long tunnel. So where is the mud that was surrounded by the tunnel? Does the gopher put it someplace else?
Answers:    Some of compacts into the walls of the tunnel, shallow tunnels just "push up" the dirt which may be hard to see contained by long lawns, etc, they also dig profoundly of side tunnels/holes so the the dirt is distributed out to many locations.

I've notice the gophers and moles in my courtyard also like to whip advantage of the the reshape fabric/plastic that's been laid down over the years, using it to the "top" of the tunnels so they're if truth be told moving less dirt out of the tunnel holes, pushing the dirt to form the sides to hold up the material.
