Answers:    There are profoundly of things you can plant, here are just a few suggestions...

Trailing: Lobelia, Verbena, Petunia, Calibrachoa, Alyssum, Gypsophila

Upright: Nemesia, Angelonia, Calendula, Primula, Viola, Pansy, Mums, Rudbeckia, Cosmos, Schizanthus, Linaria, Cheiranthus, Coleus, Dianthus, Snapdragons, Ornamental Cabbage and Kale, Forget-Me-Not, Stock, Iceland Poppies and Cyclamen

You didn't roll your zone, so you may not be able to find adjectives of these. Just bring the suggestions with you and own fun at the garden center. (If it's a reputable garden center, they will be stocking plants that will be hardy to go through the winter. Just double check next to them to be sure it's not a tender annual left over from summer and you should be obedient to go!)
