i have a pile intensely old compost out within the yard, it looks and feel like soil immediately.

my land is a thorny clay soil. A shovel can not penetrate the ground. i enjoy to get men and machinary to come if i want something dug.

I have 4 ancient railway sleepers that were newly delivered.
I hold 4 small half sleepers.

I own several large plain cardboard boxes - could i use the cardboard to smudge the garden to avoid weeds? or possibly using newspapers?

what to plant and where on earth... I'm thinking two long rectangle above ground gardens in the patio with zilch but the old compost inside - what do you deduce?

i'm thinking vegetables.

should i start my garden in a partially shadey area or full sun? Near the house or a few meters away?

it is summer here, and the summer days are long and severely very hot.

can adjectives vegetables be grown in above ground bed?
Most vegetables can be grown contained by raised bed as you mentioned. Raised beds are a virtuous idea.

Try gardens surrounded by both the half shadey and full sun areas- different plants close to different amounts of shade and light. Maybe the shadey spot since it get so hot in the summer.

Talk to the associates at the nursury/plant store- they like to contribute advice.

Tomoatoes or other cucabrits (cucumbers, watermelons,) etc do capably with lots of grill. Beans, zucchini, peas...

Also, don't water the plants while the sun is shining on them- they will "burn". It is best to marine in the hasty morning or after the sun starts to go down.

It is easier to start beside "starts" (plants which someone else started from seed) than starting from seed if you are contemporary. You can buy little 6-pack starts of most vegetables starting in Feb, March or April depending on where on earth you live.

Also- consider organic gardening!! It is MUCH in good health for you, the plants, and the soil. Planting in the compost might be okay, but you might also be capable of get some perfect soil delievered.
I have used cardboard plentiful times to smother grass and weeds surrounded by home made raised bed, filled next to similar compost mixture in full East-West sun and planted adjectives sorts of veggies, and maybe some plants to attract or repel bugs.

You might as very well be able to munch through what you work so hard to grow. Pretty flowers are pleasing the eyes and antenna, but you can't eat them, okay most you can't.

Yes you can grow many veggies above ground contained by raised bed, plus I can grow many within rocks with hydroponic methods.
Answers:    Very old compost is an excellent soil to use, I started a bed this year using nil but, and had impatiens almost 3 foot tall. They typically are half that size.

Veggies will grow in good health in a raise bed. Be sure if you are using railroad ties that you put some kind of block betwwen them and the soil, the creosote can still leach out of them into the soil and that is not polite for the plants, as you will find if you grow plants close to them with no protection. I enjoy used old hearth rug, black plastic, layers of cardboard, etc.

When I built my bed I put down tacky layers of broadsheet, old unwanted items mail, cardboard, doesn`t matter what I had to hold on to the weeds from coming up through my soil That works really all right.

You need to own as much sun as you can get for veggies but if you own so much heat that it dries everything out really quickly, you might try some afternoon shade. 5-6 hrs of sunlight is usually considered full sun.

All of the above good direction.
The rectangle with "wet" cardboard underside filled beside your compost would be ideal. I'd plant it totally near potatoes the first year. That way you own a full green cover that will keep it moist.Follow these near a green manure..mustard maybe. Beneath this cover the natural micro soil inhabitants, worms and the roots will eventually facilitate break up that base...giving you more depth over the years. Careful those sleepers don't exude pitch on hot days and use a plank across to work the soil.
