I have a few lilac bushes that we planted give or take a few 2 or 3 years ago. They have never bloomed. The buds come out but never approachable. This year the bushes are completely covered with buds but they are not blooming, despite the certainty that all the neighbors' lilac bushses enjoy been bloomed for a while.

What am I doing wrong here?
Answers:    Lilacs can be changeable. If they are in a spot where on earth they don't get satisfactory light or a crowded by other plants they may not bloom. They are also susceptible to powdery mildew, which shows up as white blotches on the leaves.

The first things to try are fertilizing, pruning subsidise (now), and removing or clipping back other plants that may be crowding them.
Lilacs are prone to blight which damages the vascular system of the plant. This will prevent the bloom from pipe. Do the branches which have buds on them "droop" at the ends? ..Do they eventually dry up and consequently either tumble off or stay attached to the plant unless removed? If so, after it is most likely blight. You can spray for this beside a fungicide spray such as copper.( that can be found at your local garden center)
