I know pictures help, but I hold none. So... the plant is medium to poorly lit green with immense, smooth-edged leaves that start as a tube and gradually undo fully as they grow. Each new palm leaf grows from the center of the previous one. Finally a woody stem grows from the center and produces one or more flowers that are much like small, spikey red-orange lilies. When we moved into this apartment later Summer, we found that soaking the planter out back cause a huge variety of seed to sprout, so since it was mid-Summer anyway and too delayed for much planting, we decided to hang around and see what grew. The most striking result was a cluster of these plants, which are very soon blooming. We are in Southern California, so season have much smaller number bearing. We also found several small bulbs while digging elsewhere, but didn't know what they be. So far my best guess is that they are cannas. Ideas?
