What is the best type of thyme for a thyme prairie? Would mother of thyme be okay?
Would mother of thyme be okay?
Answers: Hi:
There are several good Thyme varieties that would work as ground covers and also for your prairie. Mother of Thyme would work but use the Creeping Mother of Thyme. Here are a few more suggestions:
Woolly Thyme
Caraway Thyme
"Annie Hall", it only grows three inches high.
Creeping White Thyme
Coconut Thyme
These would adjectives do well for you. I will link you to the spices and herb cubicle. You may get additional information from some of these page. Hope this helps some and have a great hours of daylight!

Mother of thyme - thymus vulgarus - spreads readily. You can trim it by hand & hang to dry the leaves for cooking. Another really great entity is that when you walk on it or mow it, it releases that wonderful thyme scent. Let it flower and go to kernel to spread across your lawn. Any creeping thyme will do. They can take the foul language of being walked on and smell really upright when you do. They spread very nicely and are glibly pulled apart if they start growing over an area or a stepping stone you don't want them on.
