If the tree has insects, to be exact why it keeps breaking. DO NOT get rid of it for firewood. I would call the county extension organization to ask about it. There are some insects that are invasive and moving wood out of a quarantined nouns is illegal.
Your extension bureau should be able to describe you what to do.
You don't need to transport it ALL down. You should take some branches at the top and use that for firewood because sometimes here are bugs at the lower parts of a tree and u don't want them crawling all over ya...
