Does it mean place it outside in the sun, or is a skylight that gets alot of sun fine? Which one is better for my croton?
direct sunlight still counts behind a fanlight, it still gets direct sunlight

i love crotons they are so pretty. if something needs to be in direct sunlight it have to be in a place where sunlight can hit it team leader on..directly. so that can be outside in the sun or on a window sill where on earth it will get maximum exposure to sunlight.

but crotons do tend to get really big so you might want to consider repotting and putting it contained by the garden, and if possible planting it directly in the planet
Answers:    No, don't do that. Use filtered sun or you will fry the leaves on it. I know they say-so that Crotons can take full sun,but that is more close to winter sun. Unless you have very mild temperature filtered sun is what you should use because the sun is closer to the earth during the summer so it's rays are much stronger. Filtered sun is close to the sun coming through a east facing window, but has something approaching a thin lace ,or sheer over it. Window glass act as a magnifying glass making roast from the sun more intense. The same window could be referred to as partial shade since the sun doesn't come through it adjectives day, only contained by the morning when the sun rises. Outside ,full sun means just that. Sun adjectives day without any shade. Partial sun mode shade part of the day. Either put your Croton outside or within the window, but in filter sun,or outside partial shade. It will grow better and not get sun adjectives. Byee
Either would be correct. A fanlight is better usually, expecially in harsh weather if you are dealing near fragile plants. I use a shade cloth (30%) over my tomato plants, but I live in southern New Mexico and "direct sun" can take a toll on anything. ably i dunno what a croton is, but im pretty sure direct sunlight is when you hafta put something directly under the sun lol well not a short time ago directly under it but directly IN the sun lol
It means sunlight that is not obscured, filter or diffracted or reflected.

In a window that get sun rays is direct sunlight. In a room on the north side of a house that has windows singular facing north is probably not good.

Under a tree would be filtered sunlight (comes through the leaves).
