What can I do to prevent a cut-down tree from re-growing? I thought that there was something that I could buy to put...

I thought that there was something that I could buy to put on the tree stump, but not a soul in town seems to own anything. The garden experts in town said they used to carry something but it's be 2 or 3 years since they've seen it and as far as they know, it just isn't around anymore. Does anyone know what I can do? (I live contained by Canada so there may be products that can be bought in other countries that we can't acquire here).
Answers:    hire someone to grind the stump out. i live in florida and had several stumps removed this process.
First a cut down tree can't grow. But sprouts can grow from the stump, as you may have found out. a lot may depend on the time of the year, and which route the sap would be going, and this time of the year it is coming up. It would be easier if it were in the behind time fall, but this may not be legal contained by Canada, but what I have done is cut off any sprouts that may enjoy grown, and paint the stump with roofing tar, this have worked for me on three different stumps about 14 inches across.
Good luck. just own the stump cut out or mix a batch of round up and use a paint brush and brush is over the stump and existing foliage, it will get soaked into the tree and the tree will die, you should still take the stump out though.
