The sun can be relentless during the summer months and I find many plants don't survive even beside twice a day waterings. What own you been successful next to?
Answers: I have planted original plants and drought tolerant plants in my SoCal, Inland Empire courtyard.
Try laspilitas.com for native plants surrounded by socal, that's where I found adjectives the info for my garden. They have nurseries within Escondido and Santa Margarita, or you can order from them BUT it's enormously expensive that way. They are extremely nice, learned people.
You can also try bewaterwise.com for some more info on different types of plants that do okay in this nouns.
Some of the non native drought tolerant plants I hold are lantanas, citrus trees, various herb, lavender, gazanias, and bouganvillia.
The local garden centers should carry plants that are suitable to the local climate, a moment ago check the labels to bring in sure they are full sun, low water plants.
You can also incorporate mulch to your soil to help it retain moisture and simply water any early within the early morning or surrounded by the evening/night. You can even plant trees to add shade to ground plane plants.
hope this helps, cheery gardening!
p.s. the best part of planting local plants is that you only have need of to water once every few weeks surrounded by the summer (except when establishing them, even then its single every few days) saving sensible water for us and money for you!
