I want to make a flower border around my patio and i inevitability to find a few different kinds of short perrennials that flower a lot and that closing a long time so i don't have to re-plant flowers every spring. Any suggestions?
Snow bonnet Shasta Daisies. They are the dwarf variety and they only draw from about 8 inches tall. Great for any border!
first of adjectives you did not say what zone you are , the zone is for the perennials that you want to plant so they can survive in your nouns. then you did not say if it be a sunny or partly sunny and shady or just shady here are so many different plants for different areas. Go to the web site for wayside gardens or park nut and figure out the zone and then check the nouns for where you want to plant and take a look at what they hold and you will be amazed. Good luck! Check out a dwarf balloon flower. I have one that only get about a foot high. It blooms slowly June through the rest of the summer and has very pretty blue flowers. Also, check out some coreopsis. There are several varieties and then dont find higher than about 1-2 foot and they will bloom all summer and into the fall.
Answers: I use zinnias http://wyzmo.com/images/Zinnias.jpg and marigolds http://www.pyroenergen.com/articles/imag...
Both these plants come in high and short varieties; they also come in different shades. Both close to full sun and are pretty hardy regarding pests and diseases. Unfortunately, they're both annuals, but they can (and do) reseed.
I also use dianthus (pinks) http://billybeezer.com/images/garden/dia... which are "tender perennials", meaning they hold the ability to come back year after year if they don't freeze too frozen. Mine have lived through 2 ice storms, so they're pretty hardy!
Another poster mentioned Shasta daisies. These are suitable all-season-blooming perennials, but they require moist well-drained soil. Be prepared to water them daily, but they're spectacular! http://www.sonic.net/~webclass/templates...
