Yeah, to be precise a good query. I remember trying to find the answer 30 years ago when I had my first garden.

I own the ones in the above picture within that color, in pitch-black red, in pink and white. The bloom profusely starting contained by late May until a frost.
Answers:    Knock out roses would be a very suitable choice for you. They will bloom from mid spring to fall frost. Same near hydrangea - try the endless summer choice.

If you plant the following plants in sun, you will hold blooms of one or the other in succession from rash spring til frost:

daffodils
tulips
allium
iris
poppies
shasta daisies
phlox
monarda
false indigo
asclepias
blackeyed susan
purple coneflower

In shade, plant:
helleborus
hosta
bleeding heart
tiarella
beardtongue
ferns
epimedium
solomon's seal
fall-blooming anemones
toad lilies
There is not a plant that blooms from spring to fall. That is why you enjoy to plant many types of flowers for continuous blooming.
