What would you recommend?
I need to waste a bed of nettles

Digging them out is not an option
due to disability

I necessitate a weedkiller that is past the worst for
domestic and wild animals

And how long after treatment would it be not detrimental to replant

Thanks in mortgage

Mike
Hello Mike,
Simplest, safest not to use weedkiller at adjectives.Instead, cover the flowerbed with black polythene, frail carpet or similar.Weighed down near house bricks, leave for at lowest three weeks.
Weeds and all will die due to inability to photosynthesise.Remove the wreckage and replant
immediately.
Nettles are a bugger to kill properly. I'd agree beside Kathy S, could you not get a friend/neighbour to verbs most of it out and leave some as a wildlife habitat?

If you really must decimate them, you can buy a nettle and brushwood killer from some garden centre. It is similar to lawn weedkillers within that it contains 2-4D but is a lot stronger. Take strictness when spraying not to breathe in the fumes (wear a mask) as it be found to be carcinagenic after being used contained by Vietnam as 'Agent Orange' defoliator where it be sprayed heavily at full strength. Also wear rubber gloves to keep it stale the skin for the same pretext. It is a hormonal growth medium so the weed outgrow their ability to thieve up food from the soil so keel over and die .You will see nettles droop over within an hour of spraying.
Answers:    Hi Mike

I think others enjoy answered your questions re the weedkiller. One piece I think you obligation to consider is WHY you have so copious nettles? They are an indicator of nutrient enrichment so the best thing you can do is to try and weaken the nutrient (nitrogen) content in this nouns. Cutting the nettles and removing them will ensure that when they die, they do not re-cycle their nutrients into the soil. Perhaps you could pay someone to do this for you? The problem near this method is that it is not an instant cure and would need to be repeated over a little years - depending on how bad the infestation is. Also, be sure not to fertilise this nouns and certainly do not tag on any fertiliser containing nitrogen. Keep compost bins away from this area too. Not sure what type of soil you hold, but digging in some sand might aid to lower the nutrient content. Again - you would need to gain someone to help near this. As others have said, Glyphosate base weedkiller such as round-up is non-residual. You need to used this on actively growing plants.

Hope this help. In the meantime, why not harvest your nettles and trademark nettle soup. It is really surprisingly tasty and is excellent for putifying your blood. Very right for arthritis sufferers.
Use glyphosphate, it works through the leaves and is sitting once it touches the soil, so is not a problem to wildlife. It's a bit drastic though and nettles are necessary for the completion of the lifecylces of several of our local butterflies. Perhaps you could leave a small patch and make a friend to dig out the through part?
