Water lilys? i have been given some authentic nice water lilys but the pond...

i have been given some authentic nice water lilys but the pond they were surrounded by was a lot shallower so the pad and flowers are now 18inches below their new river line. Should i trim off existing flowers and pad or will they extend on their own.
Answers:    If you take off the leaves afterwards you'll reduce your lily's chance to strengthen and grow from sunlight and photosynthesis. Water lilies, resembling most plants, will do their best to adapt to their new environment, if things variation.

Water lily leaves only last a few weeks anyway, and it will replenish and grow unsullied ones, so some of them will probably not adapt in time. Depending on the assortment of water lily that you have, they should extend some of the current leaves to accomplish towards the surface, and new ones will automatically be drawn so that they grow to a higher even.

The flowers will hopefully do likewise, though each flower merely stays open for a couple of days, so they will probably not make it. Remove any decaying leaves and flowers, as they will otherwise rot and putrefaction in the water, providing nutrients for algae etc to grow.

If you hold miniature lilies, such as the pygmy type, see if you can manage the water stratum to get them to grow at the water smooth better. Sometimes it's worth raising their pots a little, maybe with some bricks etc. Otherwise, take out some hose down, if this is feasible in the longer permanent status, if your new plants don't make it powerfully.

Hope this helps. Good luck! Rob
