I purchased a new variety of sunflower seed called Vanilla Ice (they are from botanical interests and are all white) and am wondering if anyone else have had any experience with these?
The picture make it look like they have multiple bloom head per stock, so I was wondering if I could pinch them back so they are shorter and more bushier (this would possibly result surrounded by smaller flowers)
Any other sunflower tips let me know. I'm a first time sunflower grower
Answers: I just started beside these for my first variety of sunflowers too. Every single seed germinate planted directly in the ground, they are currently about 3' elevated, there are multiple bloom heads per stock, and you can pinch them stern. They also survived being mowed down by bunnies, and bounced back right away. Depending on how hot it get where you are, they will benefit from a daily soaking if it is remarkably hot and dry. I have been deadheading, so I haven't collected any seed yet for next year, but this series is readily available at the nursery. I also got packet of Strawberry Blonde to try next.
