We're thinking about getting an inground pool and were curious to find out what the laws/requirements are for it. Do we hold to have a fence around the pool itself? we own no small children that live w/ us but what if all the gates are locked and theres no route into the yard?
Answers: The fence code is a State Law within California but enforcement falls to the county or the city. This is where the interpretation gets things mucked down. If you hold a property fence around your house or backyard they often qualify if the wall is 5' high when measured from the outside or neighbors side.
All gates going to the vertebrae yard/pool area have to be reversed to swing out, close and latch automatically.
Double gate need cane bolt to fix one takings other other side as per above.
Garage door if going to backyard/pool area must be self closing and latching.
Any sliding windows from house to backyard/pool nouns need automatic alarms, Home Depot $20.00 or less, affixed to window or doors going to backyard/pool area.
If you put a secondary 5' illustrious perimeter fence around your pool beside gates swinging out and self closing and latching you can avoid doing all the previous stuff. The other stuff is cheaper!
Check near your local city, many have websites beside information regarding pool owners.
Locking gates commonly do not meet the requirements because it requires the gate be locked by someone and what if the alternative happen?
Understand these requirements are motivated by litigation and change as a result.
Fence needs to be contained by place prior to plaster and pool filling.
You're welcome!!
I believe in that is a law regulating fencing around any pool from a residential structure in So Cali.
You would enjoy to check with your local city's Building Department to find this out. They will also tell you how illustrious the fence must be and how far away the pool must be from the home.
Go to your City Hall and look for their Building section. They are usually found in Development Services.
