I have read two different books in relation to paprika. One book states that there is an actual Paprika pepper and the other book states that sweet paprika comes from the pimento within a different kind of pepper. Which is it? I found seed once in a Burpee catalog for a Paprika pepper but own not found it anywhere else.

I'm not sure what plant is the paprika (and funny enough, I made chicken paprikash tonight!!). Here's what Wiki say:

Paprika can be made of more than one type of pepper for example Spanish Paprika is a mild chili pepper. I think your confusion is when they speak of Hungarian Paprika it is the VERY BEST for cooking. The conditions for growing the pepper in Hungary are faultless for making a good flavored paprika.
There is a wise saying that all well-mannered cooks use white pepper when making mashed potatos, and nil but Hungarian Paprika for flavor. I know I won't!
Tip: if you make your own spaghetti sauce and it have a acidic soft spot and you don't want to add sugar use Hungarian sweet paprika that path you don't have sweet sauce.
