With autumnal leaves in great excess this year, I would like to find a cost-effective method of pressing them lacking them becoming brittle.

No silly answers please - these are a waste of time!!
Answers:    I use ripened phone books. Be sure the leaves are dry when you put them in if not they will mold. The phone book is large so you can do abundant at a time.

Carefully place your leaves in the book, making sure it doesn't fold when you close it. Place it somewhere where on earth it can sit for about 2 weeks beside heavy books lying on it so it will press. Voila! You will have wonderfully pressed leaves in no time!

You can also turn these pressings into stunning cards. Go to a paper supply store and buy blank white or cream cards. Apply the fern to the card with a small (and I penny-pinching small-just a few dots here and there) amount of glue. When the palm leaf is in place, cover the top of the card next to clear contact paper. This will stamp the leaf within place and protect it. Trim off the edges and you are disappeared with a totally pretty card!

P.S. My friend said that the type of paper they use surrounded by newspaper and phone books be good for pressing. Of course, I don't remember why but I other use a phone book (you can also get extras from your friends too). Best of luck. Have fun!
you could try a flower press, I devise most craft shops sell them
