Answers:    assuming you have a riding mower.....not really away to prevent them..they are nearby due to underground water...might entail to make two pass over the lawn... one next to the blades turned off to of late knock down the chimneys, conceivably drag something the width of the mower down it, the next pass by with the blades running to mow the grass
