Answers: First you'll own to get the right plant. A squash plant does not a "gourd" variety. You'll need to catch a vining gourd plant which are in the cucumber people and closely related to melons and squash. They grow in peculiar shapes and have a markedly hard outer shell which make for nice holding containers when cured and hollowed out. Many remote populations use them for utensils and storage. They are also used for arts & crafts, with copious being foot painted in highly wrought colors. If you want gourds for drinking containers, you'll have to turn to the local nursery and check out their seed rack. I enjoy seen the seed of gourds many times surrounded by different locations.
