I have 3 spirea that are 10-11 year ancient. They are quite hearty with the exception of some woody shrubbery. They are getting unwieldy for the space they are in even though we enjoy kept them neat and trimmed. My interrogate is, this coming fall can I trim the bushes wager on to the stems, much as you would a rose bush, in an try to start over (size-wise). Or is there some other road to reduce these bushes short replacing them?
Answers: Hi:
This is a common problem next to some older shrubs. They tend to grasp woody and much of the greenery is on the top parts of the stem. Go ahead and prune back your Spirea surrounded by the fall. Always clear sure you cut at an angle and never straight across a branch. Cutting straight across can damage the branch and shrub. I will connect you to the proper pruning page of my website. This is some easy steps on properly pruning your shrubs.
I will knit you to the variety of more plant part as there is a page on spirea and abelia shrubs. I will also association you to the site map, as this page has everything to be exact on the website. Browse through and see if you can find any other articles, tips or techniques that may give a hand you with this plant or any other landscape need. Good luck to you and own a great day!
