get some pip and spread it around.
throw alittle straw over it to help retain moisture and keep it watered. it'll grow contained by a week or two.
leave the straw. mow over it when the grass is doing ok, the straw will mulch into the soil.

Rake out the old dead grass and overseed beside new grass seed. This will grow support quickly. How big are the spots? Do they have a night ring around them?
