Some warning for planting vegetables? Hi, I do have for a moment back courtyard and decided that...
Hi, I do have for a moment back courtyard and decided that I would try to grow me vegetables this summer, because I want to try natural vegetable growing. Since I have a dog and the dog is using piece of the area be I wondering how I can make sure that I hold no contaminated soil. A friend of mine suggested that O put plastic down and then verbs soil on top of that, but I am wondering if that would work. I have the idea of getting me huge planters in attachment to making this little "backyard garden", but I am unsure of what plants grow well within big planters. Any suggestions or idea will be appreciated.
Thank you!
Answers: Hey Novice,
There use to be a book call "Grow More Vegetables", that had a french bio intensive combination of Raised bed and composting. The concepts are fairly unforced. What ever you do, be sure to till the soil deep satisfactory that the roots can move freely (not compacted). Add organic event.
I like raise beds too. 4 foot wide by how ever long you requirement them. Turn them over with lots of natural matter included. Do not meander on the beds, work on them from the creep, that way you do not squish the roots.
Tomatoes, radishes, carrot, beets, squash (summer, Zuchinni, herbs, cabbage, strawberries, lots to choose from. Go to the Home Depot and look at their Vegetable nut rack, or their seedlings - pick what you approaching, and have fun.
Be sure to start a compost pile! Your second year will be means of access better than your first if you do. Each subsequent year will get even better.
form raised bed so that it isn't "contaminated" and won't become in the adjectives months. that way fido will hopefully stay out of them as all right. bhg.com has philosophy and supplies lists for such projects. well-mannered luck and good for you for growing your own!
