I recently passed through SC and stopped at a rest nouns and the trees there smelled approaching cow patties? Any Help??

Not sure except boxwoods (lagre shrubs down in SC) smell similar to cat urine - I do not know the attraction but they are classics in hedge. If it was a more traditional or colonial-looking structure, I would bet it is boxwood.
