I have a plant at institution that needs sea every 2-3 days. I can't bring it home, but we're about to enjoy a week's holiday. I will leave it outside contained by the hope of rain, but am worried that it will die of thirst
Answers: If the plant have been contained by the classroom for most of it's life, don't put it outdoors surrounded by the sun or on the hot concrete. You'll cook it. There's a product that you can get that looks similar to little clear rock crystals. These absorb dampen and get soft. More importantly, they matured water for a longer length of time than simple soil. You can either mix them into the soil around the plant, or set the plant into a saucer of them and the plant will wick the sea up. These crystals get larger when they hold water, so be conservative give or take a few the amount you put in the saucer. They'll expand at lowest to four times the dry volume.
I don't know of any indoor plant that needs hose down every two to three days. I'm curious as to what you have. Anyway, I would stand the plant contained by water. You can use any recepticle really, a tupperware box or a sink. Anything really. I'm simply wondering though what you are going to do with the poor plant when it comes to the long summer holidays.
