I have an nouns in my patio where a hot tub used to be. Perfect for a garden! It have some sand on top of the dirt and lots of huge weed. I plan on adding top soil and tilling the garden. Can I till the sand into the dirt? Should I verbs all of those weed or can I till them into the dirt as well? A friend of mine who is an excellent gardener said to only just till the weeds within, but I'm not sure if he understands how big these dandilion weed are.
Answers: The potential problem with tilling weed into the soil is that the seeds might germinate within the middle of your garden, especially once you start watering regularly. I would recommend pulling what you can (some small ones might not come out fully) and using a weed killer on the remaining weed (not like Round Up, though, because that remains efficient in the soil for several months).
Over the subsequent week or so, water the nouns regularly to stimulate germination of any weed seeds within the soil. When they start to sprout, spray the weed killer again. This kill off a majority of the remaining weed seed and stops the growth cycle. After they're dead, till the weed into the soil. They will be immature and won't hold any additional seed on them.
I was told never to till within the weeds unless you plan on zapping them first next to weed killer and that may affect the garden depending on what you use. If you choose to use weed hired gun, check on the directions on how long you have to evacuate it before you can put the crops contained by. If going organic, verbs them before planting the best you can and next when you plant put down newspapers within the "isles" of the garden and mulch between the plants. This helps surrounded by water retention and also keeping the weed down. :)
