Rock Vs. Sod? We are looking at buying a new house...I have lived surrounded...

We are looking at buying a new house...I have lived surrounded by AZ all my life up until 3 years ago my husband and i moved to South Dakota. In AZ i saw alot of houses near rocks in the front. My question is, is it cheaper to put rocks contained by the front yard and then Sod the support yard. Or is it cheaper to sod all together?
Answers:    You will obligation to take into account the initial cost, and the conservation costs. Lawns may be cheap to install, but the real cost is the maintenance. Here within the NW we have dry summers, and more and more people are getting rid of their lawns or reducing them to mini lawns. We plant pretty, drought tolerant plants that attract hummingbirds and edible gardens. In the summer, we sit back and relish.
Most likely, in South Dakota, buying and watering sod is cheaper than paying someone to tow in rock. In Arizona, you were looking at cheap labor and expensive river. Cheapest option is waiting until next spring and planting grass core. Your county extension agent can give you good direction on this also. I have to say a apt balance.Much of our country has some southwest influence within landscaping.

If you gracefully blend the 2 you can achieve a apt looking front yard.I personally similar to natural tones and let the plants diction the rest.

Good Luck
