I was told if I cut past its sell-by date the dead flower blooms of my zenia plants and put them within a paper daypack if I replant them next spring the plant will grow pay for, is this true? If it is do I just use any backpack ans where do I store it at?
Collect the comatose flower heads immensely soon after they start to dry.put them in a composition bag and the seed will fall out. if gone on the stalk they will reseed themselves which has probably already happen. my neighbor has a big patch that come back by itself ever spring.
Yes, use a "paper" nor plastic case, store them in a cool, dry place, be aware that if they be hybrid flowers they will not come back true, that's to voice they will revert to the parent flowers that the hybrids were developed from.
Better to spent a few dollars and attain the flower types your really want.
good luck
Answers: All they are truism do is to plant the seeds from your existing plants, and which are contained by the flowerhead. Some of them will come back, no situation what u do, from falling from the blooms, naturally.
Any sack will work, paper specifically, so they can breath and dry.
any cool, dry place, closet shelf ...
This is true w/ most perinneals, zennias, marigolds ...
Some newer varities do not work as well, since they own been crossbred not to come subsidise. They still will, but it won't be as heavy as those from "pip sttock", plants grown specifically for seeds. For best results, find "heirloom" variety, (heirloom trading sites, old time homes surrounded by your rural areas ...) and keep the seed from now on, for yourself and others.
