Question re irises (and tulips).? I have what looks similar to purple irises someone gave me...
I have what looks similar to purple irises someone gave me closing year. ALL of them have come up beside SINGLE IRIS (maybe I divided them I dont remember) however not one of them has OPENED.
They are almost a gloom black purple. It looks like they are trying intricate to open but newly not getting there. They own been close to this for almost two weeks, not really getting anywhere, meanwhile another batch of pale ones I am getting like 10 tulips per wee bunch. Why would they do this?
Also, is here a specific way to divide the irises up when separating them. Maybe I did something wrong near the purple ones but I did the same next to the yellow and they are fine.
Also if anyone can endow with me advice on separating TULIP bulbs I'd appreciate that too. When in attendance are several bulbs is it best to plant two together or more? Does it matter and does it event if you put them right back into the ground after separating them fairly than wait till the Fall? I realize the leaves enjoy to wilt first.
Answers: You didn't do anything wrong, honey. Ours are the same channel. The dark ones be the last to bloom, and next when they did, the wind blew them over...lol
You don't say-so which of the hundreds of types of irises you are growing, but I assume they are the large beard irises that come in oodles colors. They will probably open eventually. Irises don't similar to too much disturbance and sometimes take several years within a spot before they flower okay. The most important article is to ensure that the rhizomes (the fat roots) are not completely buried but grow to a degree on the surface in a spot where on earth they get lots of sun. If you want to divide them verbs up the rhizomes and break them into pieces, making sure that each piece have some roots and leaves attached. Do this after they have flowered. Plant them next to the leaves to the north and the rhizome to the south so that the rhizome gets baked by the sun. They involve good drainage.
You can move and divide tulips whenever you resembling. No need to keep on till fall. Make sure you plant them within a spot where the dirt over the bulbs get plenty of sun. They also need a biddable baking over the summer. The little bulbs that you find round the main bulb may whip several years to flower.
