We discovered that a tree we previously thought was something else has peaches on it this year. It's towering and skinny, though, not like the peach trees are shaped in an orchard, so I'm guessing that's because we haven't pruned it to be that shape. It have ALOT of little walnut-sized peaches on it, but they're not growing very fast--we discovered them a month ago and they haven't grown much at all. How speedy do peaches develop? They were the size of large pecans second month. Also, they have some brown spots on them now, any perception what they might be and what we can do if it's abnormal?
Answers: Sound's like you've get an almond tree. The almond is a close relative to the peach and the look identical. When the nut begins to season they begin to get dry and spotty and later they will start to split. At this point they are ready to pick.
edit: you can check by picking and blistering one. If the seed is smooth and not rough like a peach, it's distinctly an almond.
If this came from a peach that sprouted on its own, you will usually have a poor trait tree.
Most peaches are grafted, so there is no describing what you have.
Cut it down and use the wood in your smoker.
