Keep in mind: We live within Las Vegas, Nevada-- and the weather we have here! :)
We have 3 trumpet vines planted in 3 full-size pots. We moved to a new home, fixed to bring them and then settled to cut the bottom portion of the pots off to "plant" them surrounded by the ground, leaving the top of pots as furnishings. We put them up against our cinderblock wall with trellis attached for them to grow on. It was superb this last summer/fall. Since it's finally winter here, adjectives the leaves have fall off- should I cut the vines back and agree to them start from scratch this coming spring??
ps- I know the danger of the TV taking over! :)
Answers: if you cut them back you run the risk of it taking several years for them to bloom again.... you won't hurt the plant tho.....hang about to cut until you see the new buds forming on the rest of the plant....(I'd suggest you choose one stem and cut purely that one this year, a different one next year, etc, on respectively plant so that you continue to own the pretties and still manage to renew the plant at indistinguishable time....)
if their not for privacy i would cut them back they can return with out of control
