You're going to really enjoy having a planter. Gardening can bring back to be addictive!

Several suggestions here are good ones--hostas (different varieties), inpatiens (couple of varieties surrounded by many colors). Don't get a rose b/c they obligation at least 6 hours of sunlight a day to thrive. I approaching having several types of ferns together, for example, asparagus, holly, and Boston ferns together. They are different shapes and colors and like equal location.

You can ask the folks at the nursery to suggest something, if they seem to know what they're talking nearly.

Answers:    A hosta plant would look great and loves the shade.
Try coleus or impatients. You can ask your greenhouse for shadeloving plants. Or because it will be in a pot, you can put castors on it and move into the sun for a couple hours a afternoon. Impatients. Come in a million colors, grow fast and bloom continual. You can get them at any garden center. In PA , anyhow.
Caladiums would be perfect for you. Go here to see the different colors. The hotter the weather the quicker they grow. Be sure to follow the directions on the packet. Plant fresh bulbs each summer:
