Other than rich soil, capably drained land (often grown on a slope), and sunny sunny conditions - the precision of grape vine is a whole gardening/farming niche surrounded by and of itself. Many books are written on the subject.

I suggest you go to the library, and grasp a stack of books on grapevine culture. Look them over. One will most likely confine your eye. Start reading. Start learning. There is much much much more to know and revise than what someone can answer here.
