people enjoy told me i need to trim down my orchid by adjectives the spike above the highest node? what does this be set to i cannot find any visual on how to do this and i dont want to exterminate my orchid. thanks!
Answers:    Phalaenopsis orchids hold long flowering stems with a few scales along the length, some hold flowers that develop from them and some stay dormant when they first emerge.
What you want to do is cut just above the topmost node that didn't have a flower. If surrounded by doubt leave the undamaged spike and it will start to develop a new spike from the ancient, then trim the excess.
Lower hours of darkness temperatures will also give support to them to bloom. At home we just put the plants on the floor. This is adequate of a temperature drop to initiate bloom and rearrange bloom count.
I grow orchids in my home. I grew orchids commercially and shipped them within from Hawaii, California, and Florida. We never had a problem next to the plants losing vigor by reblooming flower spikes. I have have plants put on additional spikes while the spikes from a previous year be still blooming. You can get plantlets to form on dated flower spikes.

If it is not a 'phale', but some other type of orchid, I'd say remove the bloom spike just. but know what type of orchid you have previously you go to adjectives on it.
A node looks like a bump on the flower stalk below where on earth the first blossom appears.

They are telling you to cut the bloom stalk above the second or third node on the spike contained by the hopes that another flower spike will develop.

I am not in favor of this. The plant will try to produce a branch sour that spike because it thinks it have been injured. At best, it may produce one to four buds within another 3 months or so.

Once the flowers on the initial spike have faded, cut if bad close to the base of the plant. This will concentrate animation to new fern and root production for the following season.
