Answers:    most important to elephant ears is plenty of sea (they can even grow in swampy areas) secondly sunshine and plenty of if they do like plant food (just standard miracle grow will do) clear sure to leave plenty of space around them as they can get huge! appropriate luck!
Elephant ears are fairly easy to grow. They prefer a sunny nouns with moist soil but I've seen them growing surrounded by shade and they do fine. They are heavy feeders and can be fertilized once every one or two weeks with a fertilizer approaching Miracle-Gro but this is not a requirement. They like heat so the radiator the temperatures get, the more it will grow. If you live within an area that gets below freezing within the winter, you will need to dig them up this fall down and store them in a cool dry place. They can then be replanted subsequent spring. They like to be in a to some extent shady place and love water. They grow well around ponds and streams or low drizzly areas. If you are planting them in containers use containers that have a drain jar so that you can keep water within there. Depending on the type they may or may not get "big". They will be approx. matching size as your landlord's. Where did he get them? If they are the type that you can buy in the garden centers within bulb form they may even have a bloom later within the season. The bloom will look a lot like a peace plant bloom. Good Luck! There is a blustery variety that grows in Fl. and it doesn't obtain too large but will take over if you are not practical. BEWARE!! The sun issue really depends on the heat factor. Full sun here in GA. will motive the leaves to wilt and burn. In a cooler environment they may be able to take the full sun. Thus my opinion of partly shady.
