Need gardening tips? Does anyone know of any good books or websites i can use...

Does anyone know of any good books or websites i can use for idea's for my garden. I'm not much of a gardener so am a bit lost where on earth to start. All books and websites i seem to come across are showing gardens full near plants & shrubs & ponds which is not what i want as it doesn't appeal to me and i have infantile children. i'm really looking for more like fancy idea's for such as slabbing, turfing, deck, BBQ area's fancy pathways etc. Would be greatly grateful for anyones help or counsel.
