Ok, so I know I can mix vermiculite and peat, but do I put the vermiculite at the bottom of my pot and then the peat? Or do I just throw them both together? Also, I hold sprouted a bunch of new Dawn and Coast Redwoods like today most of them are up. What is my subsequent step with them since they are so small? Is it ok if I put them in another greenhouse so that they can bring back bigger and stronger? I have done this with other tree seedling and they are fine. What can I do to keep mold off of the peat pots I planted them surrounded by? The mold is a green fuzz that is growing on the sides of the pots, what can I do to stop it?
Answers: I would put a layer of vermiculite at the bottom of the pot to ensure accurate drainage, but if you have enough of it, it should be mixed into the growing surrounding substance as well.
"put them in another greenhouse" ? Not sure what you aim - do you have more than one greenhouse? In any case, redwoods should grow fine within or out of a greenhouse, at least in summer.
The "mold" is most expected moss - it is living off the nitrogen seeping out of the pots. It shouldn't hurt anything to be in that, but If you are concerned, just scrape it past its sell-by date. If you can keep the sides of the pots in the shadows, it will retard its growth.
